UPDATE

4:00 PM — The fire marshal is investigating a fire that destroyed a home in the 1600 block of Beacon Street this afternoon.

Just after 2:00 p.m. firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke pouring from the structure just off of North Bell Street. The back of the home was fully engulfed in flames.

Fire Marshal Ross Coleman said “They went ahead and called for a second alarm because they weren’t sure if there was somebody in the house or not  so to help with any kind of rescue effort, so they went ahead and dispatched a second truck.”

There was no one inside the home and no injuries were reported, said Coleman. “The cause of the fire is still  under investigation at this time.”
