In news with Kaitlin Moore, after nearly 30 years of partnership Shannon Medical Center and Community Medical Center could soon see their day in court.
On Monday started the jury selection process for the civil suit between the two hospitals.
Shannon Medical Center, a non-profit organization, filed a petition to dissolve the partnership with Community Medical Center, formerly known as Triad, a for-profit organization, because of business profits that deem to affect the operation of the Regional Cancer Treatment Center.
The partnership owns assets with a book value of approximately $7.5 million.
The conflict of for-profit and non-profit business built tension between both hospitals. Reports say the two hospitals are in direct competition with each other and often bid on the same business.
Shannon currently has the right to vote at least 75% in the partnership to Community’s 25%.
Community is saying Shannon does not have the required votes to dissolve the Partnership due to an unsettled voting agreement.
Trial is expected to begin this week.
Governor Greg Abbott is asking that Tom Green County be declared a disaster area following the severe storms in June that impacted the area.
Tom Green County is one step closer to getting financial assistance for people impacted by the storms last month.
Governor Greg Abbott has requested disaster assistance from the United States Small Business Administration.
The governor is asking the SBA to make long-term, low-interest-rate physical disaster home and business loans and economic injury disaster loans available to citizens and businesses affected by the storm.
If the loans are approved, the small business administration would set up temporary offices within a few days. People will have to be ready with proof of damages and residency because those temporary offices will not stay for long.
