In news with Kaitlin Moore, the city of Eden is working to try and get officials on the national level to keep the Eden Detention Center open.
The city’s mayor says the center is responsible for 42 percent of the revenue generated each month in the city’s water fund.
That amounts to about 40,000 dollars the city would lose every month if the center closes.
Over 250 people are employed by core civic and 120 of those people are from San Angelo.
“This is just something we never thought would happen. I mean most everybody including the townspeople just felt this place was always going to be here that the bureau of prisons would always have a presence there and it’s just overwhelming to everyone that’s being affected by it,” said Mayor Eddy Markham, City of Eden.
Those employed by the detention center were given a 60 day notice that the center is closing at the end of this month.
Many are supporting the Laura W. Bush Institute for Women’s Health including an American hero who was their special guest.
The luncheon was held Thursday morning at the San Angelo McNease Convention Center.

Candidates for mayor and city council are gearing up for the may city elections this week by taking part in a forum.
Next month, San Angelo residents will choose a new mayor and council members for districts one, two, four and six.
Each candidate spoke for four minutes and then answered questions from the audience.
Members of the local Texas business women’s chapter hosted the event.
Early voting for the May 6th city elections begins April 24th.
