In news with Kaitlin Moore, San Angelo police are still searching for two men who pulled a knife on a Best Buy employee Monday night.
Police were dispatched to the store located at 4325 Sunset Drive around 8:20 p.m. for the report of a Robbery. Officers interviewed employees who said two men were attempting to leave the store with stolen merchandise when a store employee confronted the men.
A scuffle ensued and at some point, one of the suspects pulled a knife and pressed it to the employee’s arm. The employee disengaged the suspects and the suspects fled on foot towards Batteries Plus, located in the same shopping center. The employee reportedly suffered a minor scrape during the scuffle.
Surveillance shows one suspect appears to be a white male and the other appears to be a Hispanic male, both in their late twenties to early thirties. A man is arrested after evading arrest and stealing candy from a San Angelo Wal Mart store.
Tuesday morning, San Angelo Police were dispatched to the Walmart Neighborhood market located at 1852 W. Beauregard Avenue for the report of a shoplifter leaving the store.
While enroute to the call, Officers received additional information about the suspect’s description and that he kicked the front glass door.
Upon arrival, Officer C. Schneider observed several citizens pointing at the suspect, who was attempting to walk away. Officer Schneider approached the man and directed him to stop several times, but the man refused to comply, raised his fists, and threatened to harm the Officer.
After threatening the Officer, the suspect ran back towards the store where he was taken into custody with assistance from an Air Force Military Police Officer who was nearby.
The suspect was identified as 27-year-old Gilberto Lee Barrientos of San Angelo. Employees said Barrientos stole 5 boxes of miscellaneous candy from the store prior to police arrival. Some of the candy was located in Barrientos’s pocket at the time of arrest and other candy was located near a sidewalk.
Barrientos was transported to the Tom Green County Jail and booked for Class C Misdemeanor Theft, Evading Arrest Detention, and Criminal Mischief for damaging the store’s door.
A San Angelo woman is recovering after falling out of her wheel chair into the Concho River.
Emergency responders believe the 67 year old woman’s electric wheelchair malfunctioned when she fell into the water.
A man on the other side of the river witnessed the incident and called 911.
A police officer jumped in and held the woman’s head above water until fire rescue arrived.
Medics transported her to Shannon Medical Center with non life threatening injuries.
A man is charged with capital murder of multiple persons appeared at the Tom Green County courthouse this week.
25 year-old Ricky Ray Zuniga is charged in the deaths of two men who died following a shooting September of 2016.
During the hearing Tuesday his attorneys asked for a bond reduction.
A judge granted the request and lowered Zunigas bond from 500,000 to 100,000 dollars.
