Tom Green County Commissioners are looking for ways to keep from shutting some offices with a state grant.

They’re looking for ways to recover some of the increased costs associated with an increase in criminal and capital murder cases in the county.

County Judge Steve Floyd testified recently before a state senate committee about the costs.  The county is applying for an “Essential Needs” state grant of more than a million dollars.

“If we don’t qualify for an essential needs grant at this time, I’m not sure what would consider a situation that was truly in need because we are in need right now,” said Floyd.

Judge floyd says some offices could be shut down if they don’t receive grant money.  Right now district attorneys are prosecuting more than a dozen murder cases in Tom Green County.
