San Angelo Woman Found Incompetent to Stand Trial

A San Angelo woman, charged with cruelty to livestock animals, has been found incompetent to stand trial.

Brenda Luellen, 65, was in the Tom Green Courthouse, Thursday afternoon, where a judge ordered Luellen to the Big Spring State Hospital for treatment, in an attempt to have her competency restored.

The action comes at the recommendation of a doctor who performed an evaluation last month. His report stated that while Luellen is not currently competent to stand trial, but he believes she can be with proper treatment.

In July 2017 the sheriff’s department seized a dozen of Luellen’s severely malnourished horses.

The defendant’s attorney, Gonzalo Rios, requested and was granted permission to find Luellen treatment in San Angelo rather than Big Spring.
