Burn ban put into effect as of Tuesday morning in Tom Green County

As of Tuesday morning, a burn ban has been put back into effect by Tom Green County Commissioners.
National Weather Service recommends locals avoid any outside fires.

“When you are in a burn ban, obviously, no outside burning is allowed- you don’t want to have a campfire that’s not being monitored. Also if you’re cooking outside, you don’t want to leave that all by Itself,” Guerrero says

This month Texas governor, Greg Abbott, issued a state disaster declaration for over 70 Texas counties, not including the Concho Valley.

“Those are well off to the north, we’re talking, Haskell County, which is way up there, well North of Abilene, nothing close by. Fortunately, the drought status here in San Angelo is ranging from abnormally dry, to moderate drought,” Guerrero says

While conditions are dry in the Concho Valley, other counties are in worse conditions.
Ozona Fire Chief Brian Morrow, says the rapid winds during the wildfire in Crockett county made it difficult for his men to keep up
The wildfire is now 100 percent contained as of Monday at noon after expanding up to 4,123 acres. Fortunately, no livestock was lost. Firefighters used about 30,000 gallons to put the wildfire out completely. Big Lake, Barnhart, Iraan, Mertzon, and Sheffield stations responded to the call.

“It’s easy to light things and forget about it. Don’t even throw cigarette butts out of the window right now, things are dry,” Guerrero says

Guerrero says future forecasts indicate more rain during the months of May and June.
