San Angelo’s Lee Middle School is one of just a few in the country that is part of the Middle School Matters Initiative with the institute founded by former president George W. Bush.
San Angelo’s school district is one of only two in Texas where teachers and administrators will get intensive training and support from nationally known researchers during the coming school year.
“Middle School Matters” teaches educators how to identify students who are at risk for drop out and to implement remedial reading, writing and math instruction.
(Farrah Gomez/ Principal at Lee Middle School) “I hope for us to grow even more as a team and in our alignment and in our practices. We have diverse learners in all of our classrooms so as teachers we always have to stay fresh on our practices so that we can serve those students and meet their individual needs.”
She says Glenn Middle School will also be part of the “Middle School Matters” program. Teachers will attend a conference at the university of Texas in June.
