WIC offices to be closed March 19-22

Local News

Offices of San Angelo’s Women, Infants and Children, or WIC, program will be closed March 19-22 as the staff trains on a new software program.

The closures will include the program’s main office downtown and its three satellite locations. WIC clients are encouraged to schedule appointments prior to March 19. WIC plans a light schedule of appointments the week of March 26-29 as staff gains familiarity with the new software.

The software will allow WIC to convert to a paperless system. Among the advantages for clients are they will receive text and email appointment reminders, paper prescriptions will be eliminated for non-contract baby formulas, and client information from other clinics will be accessible to WIC’s staff.

Women, Infants and Children is a City-administered nutrition program that helps pregnant women, new mothers, infants and young children eat well, learn about nutrition and stay healthy. WIC’s main offices in the Community Development Building, 52 W. College Ave., are open 7 a.m.-noon and 1 p.m.-6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. The office is also open by appointment from 8 a.m.-noon the second Saturday of each month.

WIC’s three satellite locations are:

· Goodfellow Air Force Base’s Airman & Family Readiness Center, Building 145 at 171 Valiant St. It is open 8 a.m.-noon and 1 p.m.-5 p.m. on the third Tuesday each month.

· Ballinger, First United Methodist Church at 1501 N. Broadway St., which is open 7 a.m.-noon and 1 p.m.-6 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.

· Coleman, at 303 E. College Ave., which is open 8 a.m.-noon and 1 p.m.-5 p.m. every Thursday.
