Local News

The Texas All-State Band is the highest honor a Texas music student can receive.

Lake View students Gavin Davis (Tuba) and Lillian Street (String Bass) were recently selected for the Association of Texas Small School Bands (ATSSB) All-State Band.

Davis and Street will perform with the ATSSB All-State Symphonic Band in San Antonio on February 16, 2019 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center as part of the 2019 Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Convention.

Davis and Street were two of 1,780 students chosen through a competitive process that began with over 72,900 students from around the state vying for the honor to performs in one of 15 ensembles (bands, orchestras, and choirs).

The process begins with auditions hosted by 33 TMEA regions.

Individual musicians perform selected music for a panel of judges who rank each instrument. From the ranking, a select group of musicians advance from their region to compete against musicians from other areas in eight TMEA area competitions.

The highest-ranking musicians judged at the TMEA area competitions qualify to perform in a TMEA All-State music group. Only the top 2.4% of musicians who intitally auditioned became All-State musicians.

All State Band students will participate in three days of rehearsals directed by nationally-recognized conductors during the TMEA Clinic Convention. At the end the group will perform for thousands of attendees.

Students Gavin Davis and Lillian Street perform at Lake View High School under the direction of Cindy Costello and Lance Mosely.
