An oil crew is cleaning up a cemetery this week in Barnhart, Texas.

Texas railroad commission inspectors have been in Barnhart after a salt-water injection well blew out.

A disposal injection well malfunctioned and sprayed out liquids onto the nearby cemetery.

The chemicals fell on vegetation and tombstones.
It happened Friday afternoon when wind gusts were up to 20 miles per hour in that area.

This week they have been cleaning up the tombstones.

An Irion county commissioner says the oil company called NGL started working to clean up on Monday and has been working around the clock since.

KLST spoke to John Nanny, the Irion County Commissioner.

“They had a privacy fence there, but it was only six foot high. This thing spewed way higher than that. The west wind was blowing and it went a good 200 yards past the cemetery,” said Nanny.

Nanny adds the company that owns the injection well has been helpful with organizing the cleanup where tombstones are being cleaned by hand and the cemetery grounds are being treated.
