Construction is underway on the new ropes course at the Sonrisas Trails riding facility located at 5185 S. Bryant. A groundbreaking ceremony for the course took place on Monday.
“This has been in the works for a few years now. It’s finally coming to life,” said Corinna Mendez, who will be managing the new ropes course.
The course will be high functioning and fully-accessible.
“We will have lifts to get anyone if you have a physical disability. The lift will get you up to the top and you’ll still be able to zip line… and up to the top of the rock wall,” explained Mendez.
Sonrisas Trails is a program that allows people who are mentally or physically challenged to ride horses — but their new ropes course will be open to anyone.
Other Concho Valley organizations will be able to use the new ropes course at Sonrisas for team-building exercises.
“This is gonna be a place where everyone can come. Everyone will be able to zip line, everyone will be able to climb the rock wall. Everyone’s gonna come out as a unit, and leave as a unit,” added Mendez.
The course is expected to be completed within the next 6 weeks.
“I’m super excited to finally see this go up… from paper to real life. It’s thrilling,” continued Mendez.
Mendez said she is eager to bring this course to the community.
“We are blessed enough to get all of the donations from West Texas, the Concho Valley, and Midland area. This is a locally fundraised course. The whole community has backed us on this and we are so blessed and thank them from the bottom of our hearts,” said Mendez.
