Sonar, drones, AirMed1 used in search

SAN ANGELO, TX - UPDATE: A search for a missing man at O.H. Ivie Reservoir has concluded. The victim, 66-year-old Benny Frank Henderson, was found dead in the small cove where he had entered the water after beaching his boat.

Press release from the Concho County Sheriff's Department

On July 10th 2018 at approximately 9:00 a.m. Texas Game Wardens responded to a boat overdue call on Lake OH Ivie in Concho County. Concho County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to assist with the call. Seven Texas Game Wardens, the Sheriff, and three Deputies searched the area for the missing boater.

During the search it was determined that the boater beached his boat on land and attempted to return to his residence by foot. Officers were able to track the subject following his footprints and determine that he entered the water in a small cove.

After no other footprints were found officers utilized side scan sonar on boats as well as an aerial drone to try and locate the subject. Officers were also assisted by Shannon AirMed1.

At approximately 6:10 p.m. officers recovered the victim in the small cove where he had entered the water.

The subject identified as 66 year old Benny Frank Henderson of Lake Ivie Texas was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Scott Spoonts and sent to the Lubbock County Medical Examiner for autopsy. The case is under investigation by Texas Parks and Wildlife and the Concho County Sheriff’s Office.
