Railroad Expert Speaks at SAMFA

Local News

People were able to learn about the history and positive impacts of railroads Thursday evening.

Bob Laprelle is the CEO of the Museum of the American Railroad, which has become a tourist destination and resource for schools. He came to San Angelo to give a presentation about the railroad’s past, present and future.

“There is a wonderful story to be told about the railroad, the workers, and the reason it touched everybody’s lives even today,” said Laprelle. “It contributed to the nation’s commerce, helped us win world wars and there’s just a fantastic story to be told.”

Laprelle also says a lot of “high tech jobs” such as data processing and software creation are becoming available through the railroad.

The event was sponsored by the FHM foundation in Midland which brings speakers to the art museum.
