SAN ANGELO, Texas – This Memorial Day weekend, many in our community got an early start at paying tribute to those who have died, serving our great nation.
On Saturday morning, about 60 people participated in a flag placement event at Johnson’s Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
Community members, including the Boy Scouts, placed flags on the graves of over 1600 veterans.
This year, a record was broken for the most participants they ever had and finishing the fastest – they were done with the placements after only an hour and 10 minutes.
“It’s so humbling. As you can see, it’s so beautiful, you know, when all the flags are out. We have this many veterans that served our country and that’s why we need to remember them, we will never forget,” proclaimed Eulogio Diaz, who is the Community Relations Representative at Johnson’s Funeral Home.
Johnson’s Funeral Home is celebrating all weekend long, until the big day.
On Sunday, Honor Guards from Goodfellow Air Force Base are going to take part in a 24-hour vigil from 10:00 a.m to 10:00 a.m., on Monday.
Also, on Sunday from 8:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., there will be a candlelight ceremony, with just music and prayer, to honor our fallen heroes.
Finally, on Monday at 10:00 in the morning, there will be a Memorial Day service with Goodfellow Air Force base Honor Guards and the Angelo State University choir at Johnson’s Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
Everyone is welcome to any of these events.
