Wind-whipped wildfire burning in northern Crockett County

Evacuations order for some familes

SAN ANGELO, TX - UPDATE: US Hwy 190 west of Eldorado and east of State Highway 163 was closed near the midnight hour due to the wildfire's approach. Motorist will need to find alternate routes.


This evening — according to Crockett county fire officials — Crockett county commissioners and county judge held an emergency meeting to discuss the grassfire burning in northeastern Crockett county.

It started earlier this evening on the Coates Ranch in Reagan county and moved quickly to the southeast.

The grassfire has already traveled several miles — and is more than a mile wide. At this hour it's near state highway 190 West and County Road 205 to County Road 137.

Tonight state highway 190 from midway lane — to state highway 137 is closed. Six ranch families have been evacuated — and more are being evacuated this evening.

Firefighters from Reagan county, Iraan, Big Lake, Mertzon and Crockett county are on scene. Crockett county has also requested the help of the Texas Forest Service.
