Fatal car crash in Irion County involving two vehicles


A two-vehicle car crash in Irion County early this morning left one person dead. Vicky Lynn Hernandez, 45, of Rotan, Texas was pronounced at the scene of the crash.

The TxDPS report details reveal a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado truck driving by Hernandez traveling westbound on RM 2469 had disregarded a stop sign at the intersection of State Highway 163 north of Barnhart, and crashed coming to rest facing northbound in a fence line in the northwest part of the intersection.

Hernandez was sitting on the tailgate of the truck when Conell Dwyon Pryor, 42, of Stamford, Texas, also disregarded the stop sign, driving off the pavement and striking Hernandez before coming to rest in the caliche extension of RM 2469.

Preliminary investigation shows Vehicle #2 was parked after just being involved in a crash. Vehicle #2 was parked facing northbound in a fence line in the North West corner of the intersection of RM 2469 and SH-163. Vehicle #2 had crashed due to disregarding the stop sign at the intersection while westbound on FM 2469. Hernandez, the driver of Vehicle #2, was out of the vehicle sitting on the tailgate. Vehicle #1 was also westbound on RM 2469. Vehicle #1 disregarded the stop sign at the intersection as well, and drove off of the paved portion of the roadway. Vehicle #1 collided with the rear of Vehicle #2 on the back right quarter. Vehicle #1 struck Hernandez. Vehicle #1 continued down the caliche extension of RM 2469 where it came to rest.
