Eagle Scouts and volunteers recognized at Scout banquet

Concho Valley District of the Texas Southwest Council Banquet

SAN ANGELO, TX - The local Concho Valley District of the Texas Southwest Council of the Boy Scouts of America held its Eagle Scout and Volunteer Recognition Banquet Friday, January 11, 2019.

Twenty-five scouts attained the rank of Eagle Scout in 2018. Many of the newly minted Eagles are from Troop 363, which meets at Southland Baptist Church.

"Since 1912, the Eagle Scout rank has represented a milestone of accomplishment—perhaps without equal—that is recognized across the country and even the world. Those who have earned the Eagle Scout rank count it among their most treasured achievements. “Eagle Scout” is not just an award; it is a state of being. Those who earned it as youth continue to earn it every day as adults. That is why an Eagle Scout is an Eagle Scout—not was." — BSA web site

The new Eagle Scouts were presented with a book and a medallion at the ceremony.

One of the Eagle Scout service projects, the Sensory Riding Trail of Sonrisas Trails Therapeutic Riding located at 5185 South Bryant Lane in San Angelo by Eagle Scout Kevin Franke, was nominated for the Glenn A. and Melinda W. Adams National Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year.

Volunteers of the Scouting program were also recognized at the banquet.

Casey Jacobson was awarded the Trailblazer Award; Shannon Gill was named as the Cubmaster of the Year; Linda Billington was named Scoutmaster of the Year; and Jody Allen was given the District Award of Merit.

Silver Beaver Award

The Silver Beaver Award is the council-level distinguished service award of the Boy Scouts of America. Upon nomination by their local Scout council and with the approval of the National Court of Honor, recipients of this award are registered adult leaders who have made an impact on the lives of youth through service.

The Silver Beaver is an award given to those who implement the Scouting program and perform community service through hard work, self-sacrifice, dedication, and many years of service. It is given to those who do not seek it. Its purpose is "to recognize registered Scouters of exceptional character who have provided distinguished service within a council."

The Texas Southwest Council awarded the 2018 Silver Beaver Award to Darrell Keese.
