Retailers in the United States and Canada are pulling some Kotex personal-care products off of their shelves due to “a quality-related defect”.

On Tuesday, Kimberly-Clark, a company which manufactures personal-care products, recalled regular absorbency U by Kotex Sleek Tampons after some consumers reported having to seek medical attention due to the product unraveling and/or coming apart inside the body upon removal. There also have been a small number of reports of infections, vaginal irritation, localized vaginal injury, and other symptoms.

The recall involves specific lots of the product manufactured between October 7, 2016, and October 16, 2018, and distributed between October 17, 2016, and October 23, 2018. Consumers can identify the product by specific lot numbers found on the bottom of the package. A full list of recalled lot numbers is available on the U by Kotex® website.

According to a press release from Kimberly-Clark, no other U by Kotex-branded products are subject to this recall.

The company urges consumers who purchased the recalled product to stop using it immediately and contact Kimberly-Clark’s consumer service team at 1-888-255-3499 between 7:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Central Time, Monday through Friday, for information on the recall.
