SAN ANGELO, Texas (SAISD) — Congratulations to Central High School junior, Cade Campbell – the 2019 UIL Academic State Champion in Physics!

Cade placed first in the state in physics at the 2019 UIL Conference 6A State Academic Meet held earlier this month at the University of Texas in Austin.

Prior to winning the state’s top prize in physics, Cade won the overall science championship at the UIL regional competition this year. During the regional competition, Cade won first place in Physics and Chemistry, and second place in Science Team. Cade was also named Overall Science Champion at the UIL District Competition where he won first place in Physics, Chemistry, and Science Team, and second place in Biology.

1,140 students took the district level science test across 32 districts in UIL Academic Region 1. 187 of those students advanced to regional competitions across four Conference 6A regions. Only 31 of those students qualified to advance to the state competition.

According to his teacher and UIL coach Carly Stephens, Cade is hungry to learn everything he can about physics, chemistry, biology, and math. “He began studying calculus based physics independently through multiple textbooks and online collegiate courseware. He would come to me to ask for additional materials and additional problems to practice with when he exhausted the materials he had. Cade also excels at chemistry and has been learning biology independently.”

Mrs. Stephens says Cade is one of the best physics teachers she has ever witnessed. “He helps other students when they struggle with a topic, both in class and during UIL practices.”

San Angelo ISD is extremely proud of Cade, not only for his academic success, but also because he lifts learners around him. He truly exemplifies what it means to learn at high levels in SAISD.
