Alcohol, Excess Speed, No Seatbelt Factors in Recent Major Crash
Just after 7:00 p.m. on August 25, 2016, San Angelo Police investigated a major rollover crash that occurred in the 300 block of N. Bryant Blvd, near Julio’s Burritos.
Upon arrival, Officers located 35-year-old Janice Burgess lying in the restaurant’s parking lot. Burgess was suffering from incapacitating injuries and she was transported to Shannon Medical Center by ambulance. Burgess has since been released.
San Angelo Traffic Investigators suspected Burgess to be driving under the influence of alcohol and obtained a Search Warrant for a blood specimen, which later showed Burgess’s blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit.
During the crash investigation, Police learned Burgess was traveling north on N Bryant Blvd. at a high rate of speed when she lost control of her black 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe. The Tahoe went into a skid and rolled over multiple times. Burgess, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle approximately 100 feet. Alcohol was located inside the vehicle.
Burgess was later cited for Speeding 25 MPH & Over, No Insurance, and No Seat Belt.
This is an ongoing investigation and other charges may be forthcoming.
