100th Year of the San Angelo AKC Dog Show

Local News

An exciting weekend for dog lovers…as the National AKC Dog Show is back in San Angelo for its 100th year.

This year more than 300 dog owners entered their canines into the show themed ‘the dogs are coming to town’.

Several competitions are hosted throughout the two-day event, which continues until tomorrow afternoon at the Foster Communications Coliseum.

Dogs and their handlers from all over the country including states as far as California, Nebraska and Florida, come to the Concho Valley annually.

“What’s important about our dog show is the economic impact for San Angelo between hotels, motels, gas fuel food and so it’s a huge impact for San Angelo,” said Valerie Tillery, President of the Concho Kennel Club.“So we want to encourage spectators to come and support our club.”

The show is hosted by the Concho Valley Kennel Club who hosted San Angleo’s first AKC show back in 1916.
