Meet and Confer members have met with City staff in regards to budget constraints that would effect the pay raises for local police officers.
City staff had previously requested for Meet and Confer members to come up with a solution to the fact they the city does not have the $630,000 (approximately) to fully fund the pay raises that are currently in the agreed upon contract. Meet and Confer members came up with a plan, as requested, and proposed this to City staff this morning.
City staff advised that they had enough money to cover half of the pay increase (approximately $322,000). Meet and Confer members came up with the solution that would give 50% of the original pay increase and an option to remove other items that could save money for the city.
City staff members rejected the proposal provided by Meet and Confer members. City staff members advised that they would present a separate plan to City Council.
At this point it seems that the city will not be able to meet the terms of the Meet and Confer Contract. Meet and Confer members will be presenting our proposal to City Council at the next City Council Meeting. The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at 9:00am.
