A Community Affair – San Angelo Symphony

News

“A Community Affair” — a performance of the San Angelo Symphony featuring local guest artists was enjoyed by a crowd at the Elta Joyce Murphey Performance Hall and Stage at City Auditorium November 4, 2017.

Select students of the Central High Orchestra sat side-by-side with the professional musicians of the San Angelo Symphony to play “Eine kleine Nachtmusik” by Mozart.

A San Angelo native and Lake View graduate Michael Schneider, now a concert pianist in his own right, was featured with Dr. John Irish of Angelo State University in “Concerto No. in C Minor” by Shostakovich.

Guest Conductor David Phillips had recently retired from Central High School, and was glad to have the ability to conduct the CHS students once again. “It is wonderful to be here in this great hall,” he said. “The acoustics are wonderful, the new area in the back gives performers so many more options. It is quite a change from the McNease Convention Center.”
