A 9 month-old has died and one adult is in critical condition following a house fire in Odessa Sunday.
“Upon arrival Odessa fire rescue did see smoke coming from the home. There was one adult who was trying to put the fire out.” said Andrea Goodson, Odessa police public coordinator.
As crews responded to the fire one man was airlifted to a Lubbock hospital in critical condition.
Goodson said three children were in the home with one adult at the time of the fire. Two children coming out safely, while the baby didn’t make it after an officer tried to save him.
“John Fause was the first on scene, he did attempt to go into the house. He had to come back out. He has been transported as a precaution with smoke inhalation,” said Goodson.
Odessa police department and fire rescue responded in time to contain the fire within ten minutes, but they were unable to save one life from the flames.
“There is very heavy fire damage. There is smoke, heat, and water damage throughout the remainder of the house,” said Goodson.
The home still standing, but is in “unlivable” for the family.
The cause of the fire is still unknown at this time.
