Prince Harry, Meghan Markle announce engagement

The second of three official engagement photos of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle released by Kensington Palace.

The engagement photos, shot by Alexi Lubomirski, were released a day after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle joined the Queen for Christmas lunch.

Prince Harry and actress Meghan Markle announced they are engaged to be married. The couple made their first public appearance since the announcement at a photocall in the Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace in London.

According to Kensington Palace, Prince Harry designed the ring. It has a gold band and features a large diamond from Botswana and two smaller diamonds from the personal collection of Harry's mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Harry's grandparents, are "delighted" for the couple and "wish them every happiness," a Buckingham Palace spokesman said.

The couple will marry on May 19, 2018, Kensington Palace announced in Dec. They will get married at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle.

Harry and Markle were introduced by mutual friends in July 2016, Markle said. Markle is known for her role on the TV show "Suits."
