
Daija Barrett is the morning and midday anchor for KLST News.
She’s no stranger to the Concho Valley. She started her career in San Angelo several years ago, providing cutting-edge journalism as the News Connection Reporter for both KLST and KSAN News. Her field reporting earned her the Media Honor award from Grape Creek ISD.
Her time reporting came to an abrupt end when her father’s lung cancer took an aggressive turn for the worse. Daija returned to care for her father in his final days before his heavenly transition.
Daija returns to the Concho Valley with a vibrant spirit and zest for all things life, which she looks to bring to Concho Valley This Morning and KLST News at Noon.
Daija is a native Floridian from the central Florida hamlet of Avon Park. Graduating from Avon Park High School (home of the Red Devils) where she was a triathlete, active in the Future Farmers of America, an ambassador of the South Florida State College Reach Out Program, and participated in various other extracurricular activities.
She went on to attend the prestigious and historical Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University in Tallahassee and earned her bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism. At Florida A&M she was titled Miss School of Journalism & Graphic Communication, earned the Best Leadership award for The National Association of Black Journalist short course, and is an Emmy Award winner.
In her spare time, Daija enjoys traveling, listening to music, reading, and playing volleyball.
