Family Photos Returned to Owner Thanks to Social Media

A San Angelo resident -- who misplaced a camera card with photos from a family reunion months ago -- has had her photos returned -- thanks to Facebook.
Her family had not had a reunion in 25 years. Snapping photos throughout the September Day, Melody Reed could not wait to frame the memories.

After working out just behind the Fine Arts Museum days after the party, she realized the SD Card with all the family pictures was no longer in her purse.

Fast forward one week later to the 9/11 memorial:

"I saw it right outside the door of my car and my hands were full, I picked it up, stuck it in the console of my car because my fear was if I left it there somebody would drive over it and break it," San Angelo Police Department Assistant Public Information Officer Tracy Gonzalez said.

Remembering to remove the card from her vehicle this week, Gonzalez viewed the photos and asked on Facebook if anyone recognized the family. The post received an overwhelming amount of shares and comments.

"That's the great thing about San Angelo" Gonzalez said. "We're a community. We did have some negative comments about it, but for the most part I think people were really supportive that the police actually care about little things and you know it was important for me personally to find the owner."

Within an hour, Gonzalez had a lead and by the end of the afternoon, the card was back in Melody's hands.

"They called me yesterday and I was in shock that this thing was even found again, you know?" she said. "I thought it was gone for good. I thought, 'Oh well, they're gone. There is nothing you can do about it.'"

Reed said she is heading to Wal-Mart this weekend to make copies for her family.

"In the world today, we have so much crazy stuff going on," she said. "It's going to be a good example ... Even if it were just an SD card."

Memories made, lost and then found again to cherish.
