Randy Ward
KSAN/KLST Assistant Director

Randy is a native Oklahoman who is happy living in West Texas. Randy began his television career while a college student at the University of Central Oklahoma. Randy was part of the school's award winning nightly newscast that was totally student operated. It was there that he learned a lot of what it takes to gather and present a sports story. Upon his graduation from UCO in the spring of 2006 he accepted a job at KSAN and began work in August of 2006 as Sports Director for the NBC affiliate. It’s a position that he held with great pride for eight years as he loved telling the stories of the Concho Valley athletes and those associated with athletics. In August of 2014 Randy was named to a new role as Assistant News Director for KSAN and KLST. The relationships that are developed within the community are what make the job special to Randy.

In his time at KSAN, Randy has been honored by several organizations for his work. In 2009 he was named Broadcaster of the Year by the Lone Star Conference. It’s an award that is typically given to radio play-by-play broadcasters, but Randy is just the second TV Sportscaster to receive the award in the last 30 years. The Texas Association of School Boards has put Randy on it’s Media Honor Roll 3 times in recent years, 2011 and 2013 by the San Angelo ISD, in 2013 by the Grape Creek ISD, and again in 2014 by Water Valley ISD.

Dirt track racing has always been the number one passion for Randy and that’s where he spends any time he has away from KSAN. Randy makes trips to several states each year to watch the sport. Racing is actually where Randy got his start with a microphone, serving as public address announcer at Lawton Speedway (Lawton, OK) on Saturdays and State Fair Speedway in Oklahoma City on Fridays for several years before moving to San Angelo.

If you have a story that you’d like Randy to consider for the KSAN or KLST broadcast, send him an e-mail at rward@ksan.tv. You can also follow him on twitter:
