ASU Softball Hosts NCAA Tournament 05-07-14

Angelo State Softball Head Coach Travis Scott is in his 11th year at the helm of the Rambelle program. Coach Scott has helped grow the program to six Lone Star Conference regular season titles, six post season tournament titles, and the Division II World Series. So it's no surprise, the coach and his Belles are hosting the regional tournament once again.

Jeff Corean: "Angelo State softball is fresh off of a Lone Star Conference tournament title. Even though the victory over West Texas A&M was a sweet one for the Belles, it is time to focus on the NCAA tournament."

Morgan Spearman: "We can celebrate for a little bit but now we have to turn around and get ready for St. Edward's. They have great pitching, they knocked us out last year. Everyone has seen their pitchers once at least. We know what she does, we just have to come out and be mentally ready."

Jeff: "With ASU hosting one of the toughest regionals in the nation, Head Coach Travis Scott knows his team can not be caught looking ahead."

Travis Scott: "We have a tough regional that we are going to have to be prepared for. We can't look forward to Super Regional's. We have to take it the old cliché one game at a time. That's really going to hold true in post season play."

Jeff: "With the Belles success a leader has emerged in true freshman Kenedy Urbany. Urbany is not just any freshman, she is Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Year."

Luz'Ce Bacca: "Most of the time it is hard to put a freshman pitcher in there and depend on them to get the job done at this level. She came in with fire and fight. She leads the team by example. By giving her hardest, her all. Every single day. She's worked hard. She deserves Freshman of the Year.  I'm very proud of her and glad she is on our team. (laughter)."

Jeff: "The key to the Belles advancing to the Super Regionals? Error-less defense."

Spearman: "As long as you play good defense, defense wins you ball games. You can't make errors. First team to make an error is probably going to lose."

Game one is Friday at 4:30 when St. Mary's will take on Cameron. The Belles will play after that against St. Edward's at approximately 7 o'clock. The tournament will continue through the weekend with the Championship game Sunday afternoon. You can catch the highlights from this weekend right here on KSAN Sports.
