A few months ago Angelo State announced that all home football games would be played on campus starting with this coming fall season. And since that time work has been going to ensure that happens. KSAN's Jeff Corean was there today to get a look at the construction progress.

Jeff: "There are changes going on around LeGrand Stadium at First Community Federal Credit Union Field. Changes that not only benefit athletic programs but the entire Angelo State campus."

Sean Johnson: "I think certainly it's great for the athletic department. It's certainly great for the football program. I think the bigger thing is it's great for our campus. We have a great campus, we have a good atmosphere, we want to make that a great atmosphere. Not just about football but bring that sense of community back to campus."

Jeff: "The stadium's new look began as soon as ASU's track season finished up late Spring, which gave construction crews plenty of time to fix old issues that had previously gone un-noticed."

Johnson: "We we got those heavy rains over Memorial Day weekend, we were able to fix some grating and some drainage. We fixed some areas near the pole vault area that was originally constructed one way but we were able to change those and make those better. Really it's been a great process and the fact that we've had this amount of time to work on it has really been to our advantage."

Jeff: "With newly installed turf being put in last October looking great under the light of day, Athletic Director Sean Johnson is really excited to see what the field will look like underneath the brand new lighting system that was also installed with the project."

Sean: "The first thing we did was put in new lighting. We have some bigger poles on the West side but they really were not good enough for football and we certainly had no poles on the East side. We installed four brand new poles and they're going to light this place up."

Jeff: "With the Rams kicking off 2014 on September 13th at home, ASU Athletic Director Sean Johnson expects the project to be completed much sooner."

Johnson: "The target date is actually in August, you always set those dates ahead of time to make sure everything can be completed by then. Hopefully we might be done a little sooner, but we certainly not going to rush anything."

Jeff: "Jeff Corean, KSAN, San Angelo's sports channel."
