Angelo Coaches Clinic to Begin Tuesday

Football coaches from around the state will soon flock to Angelo State for the annual Angelo Coaches Clinic.
On Tuesday, the Junell Center on the campus of Angelo State will be filled with football coaches from around the state as the annual Angelo Football Clinic will be underway.

Former and current NFL and college coaches from around the country will be talking with high school football coaches about strategy and other football related topics. Clinic Director Mike Martin said the clinic, which has stretched over four decades, is successful because of the easy access high school coaches have to some of the games greats.

"One of the reasons that this clinic has been so successful is that we were one of the first ones that had question and answer sessions," Martin said. "Where you could sit down and talk to any speaker here and you could sit right beside him on stage and ask him all of the questions you wanted to and he would answer and i think they really enjoyed that camaraderie, the other thing is that we've brought other people in from across the united states, the expense is not the problem we want coaches in this area to have access from the east coast to the west coast, from Michigan and Michigan state, Notre dame and we've had speakers from everywhere."

Among the many coaches who will be speaking is the University of Texas head coach Charlie Strong, University of Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin and former NFL head coach and defensive coordinator Wade Phillips. The clinic will run Tuesday through Thursday.
