A federal prison inmate who escaped more than 40 years ago was found dead this week in San Angelo.

Tom Green County sheriff's deputies responded to a call in the 700 block of Cactus Lane Tuesday -- and found the body of a 62-year-old man in a home.

Investigators determined the man was named Robert Leroy Parker -- and had escaped from a work detail at a federal prison in Oklahoma in the early 1970's.

Parker had been serving time for mail theft -- and was originally from Arkansas.
Investigators say he'd lived in San Angelo for about the past ten years - and used the false name of Charles Johnson.

He died of natural causes.
