Rep. Darby runs for reelection

Representative Drew Darby is running for reelection against opponent Shannon Thomason in the primary. Voting for the March 4th primary begins February 18th. Read more here.
72nd State Representative Drew Darby is running for his fifth term in the Texas legislature.

"There's nothing more important in West Texas than water, transportation, education, and jobs" stated Rep. Drew Darby.

As a member of the House Appropriations committees, he is aware of the funding challenges.

"We're seeing a continued deterioration of the roads here in West Texas," continued Darby.

Before his election to state legislature, Darby served on the San Angelo City Council and chaired the San Angelo Water Advisory Board. He remembers the first discussions of the Hickory Aquifer years ago.

"I have always been supportive of investing in that pipeline and bringing that water out of McCullough and Concho counties so we would have that emergency supply of water in times of drought," Darby said.

Darby said this year's motto is the same as it's always been.

"What I call for is a reinvestment," explained Darby.

He remains focused on improving West Texas roadways overwhelmed in recent years by oil field traffic.

"We got approximately $57 million to fix Highway 158 from the Midland county line to Sterling city. You're going to see that all under repair right now. That's all going to be torn up. That is literally the most dangerous road in Texas," continued Darby.

Darby also talked about the incident in November when he was arrested at the Austin airport for having an unauthorized weapon.

"I'm a concealed carry permit holder. That weapon was legal in the Austin airport. I just happened to be in a area in the airport where it was not," finished Darby.

While Darby said the incident was an accident, he also said it isn't something he plans to do again.

Shannon Thomason is running against Darby in the March 4th primary. Voting for the primary begins February 18th. Tune in Wednesday at 6 p.m. to hear from
Thomason.
