A team compiled of mostly San Angelo Central varsity basketball players qualified for a state championship tournament that will be played at the end of this month in Grapevine. Parents of the players put together the San Angelo Shootout today in hopes to raise money for the team to help with trip expenses. Teams from as far away as Del Rio showed up today to play a little round ball and help a team reach the tournament.
Diane Garcia: "This is a fundraiser. We are going to the state tournament in Grapevine at the end of July. We won this in Abilene. We played in an Abilene tournament. That's what we are doing today. Hopefully we can get San ANgelo and the surrounding communities to come out and support these guys and encourage more basketball."
James Hendon: "We're just bringing a whole bunch of teams together and getting the kids some reps in basketball. Summer time is a good time to get ready for the regular basketball season. We are just preparing kids. Getting them ready to play. Getting them in shape."
