Central Football Opens Spring Practice 04-30-14

The Central football team will hold 18 practices over the next several weeks then culminating with a Spring Game. KSAN's Jeff Corean was at San Angelo Stadium as they held their first practice at 6:30 Wednesday morning.

Jeff: "San Angelo Central Bobcat football commemorate their new season with spring workouts this morning. They have new assistant coaches, new players, and of course new goals."

Braden Hucks: "We're looking this year to go undefeated. Unfortunately last year we missed it by one game against Tascosa. We are for sure aiming for an undefeated season and another district title and a deep run in the playoffs."

Brent Davis: "We hired some really good people. I'm real pleased with our offensive line coach John Long. He came over from Seminole. We're excited about him. Johnathon Dawson, our linebackers coach is going to be a great hire for us. Jake Ward our wide receivers coach. I got him from Dripping Springs. They all have our philosophy. We also moved Larry Hoelscher up from our freshman campus to coach our corners. They all have our philosophy and our way of doing things. They are going to be really good for us. We have a lot of really young kids who are trying to find a place and trying to learn. We have people in new positions and things like that."

Jeff: Along with some of the new players and coaches with the program the Bobcats are hoping for new results when facing teams from the metroplex."

Davis: "We've got to get to where we can be competitive with the metroplex. I've said that for three years now. We are a ton better than we were three years ago, but we're not over that hump yet."

Jeff: "One thing on the minds of coaches is how players retain what they've learned from now until this fall."

Davis: "We've always gained a bunch out of our spring. We gave up a week of two-a-days but we feel like the 18 days we get now especially with our young kids that we hadn't seen a whole lot, is a big, big plus for us."
