The former mayor of Sweetwater was in San Angelo, for a campaign trip.
Greg Wortham attended a reception at the McNease Convention Center Wednesday.
He’s a San Angelo native and the only democratic candidate running in the special election to fill the District 28 Senate seat.
The seat was vacated by Robert Duncan after becoming Chancellor at Texas Tech.
While in town Wortham commented, "Texas is one of the top ten economies in the world. And we don't need to act like the 51st state any more. We don't need to keep cutting schools because we've done it before. we don't need to cut roads because we've cut road once."
Early voting begins next Monday, August 25th --- with the election taking place on September 9th.
