As the city of San Angelo considers a solid waste management contract with Republic Services, the City Operations Director, Shane Kelton, and City Manager, Daniel Valenzuela announced Wednesday morning Republic Services may have charged residents unnecessary fees for years.

The news comes at a time where the city is already being criticized by some residents for considering Republic Services' proposal over Texas Disposal Systems'.

"Once that review is concluded and we determine that there were fees that weren't charged, we're going to pursue that. We want to make sure that any commercial accounts that didn't pay what it's due are compensated for that," stated Valenzuela.

An investigation is underway to determine whether residents were overcharged.
