That chilly start did break a record for morning low today, we reached 9 degrees with the old record standing at 10 back in 1951. It's also the coldest temperatures recorded at Mathis Field since February 6, 1996. The afternoon still looking better as high pressure along the surface returns along with the southwest. Temperatures are expected to warm into the low 50's jumping to the 70's by tomorrow. Overnight lows will dip back below freezing but only near 31 degrees with mostly clear skies and thanks in part to our winds. Look for breezy conditions in the morning with winds anywhere between 15 to 20 miles per hour. The wind will be the main concern as dew points and humidity stay low. A fire weather watch is in effect for Friday afternoon till 6PM. Gusty winds expected tomorrow around 20 to 25 with gusts up to 30. But each day looks better with winds subsiding by Sunday and temperatures staying warm in the upper 70's. Next cold front is expected to pass through Saturday morning taking temps back down to the 60's and 40's by Sunday. We're also watching for an increase of moisture and cloud cover to possibly bring our next chance for showers to start off the month of February.
