Happy Texas Independence Day! This was the weekend that festivities across the state were held to honor our founding fathers.... Yesterday - the 7th Annual Texas Independence Festival was held at the Paseo De Santa Angela - and I took a look into the event that continues to grow every year.
Deep in the Heart of Texas - a fitting song for an event that occurred 178 years ago today that would forever alter the lives of Texans -- instilling within their hearts - an ever-lasting pride for the Lonestar State.
Texas Independence Day celebrates the adoption of the Texas Declaration of Independence - on March 2, 1836.... And the Concho Valley celebrates each year - bringing craft vendors - a car show - and how could it be a Texas Independence Festival without BBQ?
John Luce, chairman of the event says, “We have some of the best bar-b-que cooks in the state of Texas. A lot of these guys have been on TV, they've been on Jack Daniels deal, and they’re some of the best in the state.”
Luce says the celebration continues to grow as more people join in on resurrecting the recognition of our founding fathers and their tireless efforts to create the Republic of Texas....
"We're just out here celebrating what our forefathers did a long time ago.">>
And it's as simple as that. Seven entertainment groups came out - and a total of 25 vendors with handmade items filled the pavilion of the Paseo De Santa Angela.
Judy Fowler, vendor coordinator says, "We have more vendors. We have everything from candles, to pictures, to jewelry, crocheted items, handmade jelly and everything."
Just as unique as these items -- is the Texan attitude and the love one has for the lone star state.
“Me personally, I love Texas and to get everyone out here to enjoy being a Texan.”
And for those who can't say they are a true blooded Texan - you all know the saying.... "if you weren't born in Texas - you got here as quick as you could!"
