San Angelo - TX - Through God Comes Justice Jail Ministry celebrated 20 years of ministry in the Tom Green County Jail with a Barbeque Brisket Fundraiser -- where more than 700 tickets were pre-sold for the fundraiser.
" I tell you, it's really humbling just to be able to see all the different offices, work locations throughout San Angelo come together," says Ministry Chaplain, Dennis Trujillio.
"We're strictly run by donations only from churches, individuals, so this really helps us out to purchase bibles and do bible studies with the inmates."
Over 100 volunteers representing 45 different local churches make up the ministry.
"We have 449 beds in the Tom Green County Jail that we minister to on a daily basis. We do 50 hours of bible studies with them throughout the week, so we really need a lot of volunteers," says Trujillio.
"This is also the largest jail ministry in a county facility in the state of Texas."
The West Central Texas Specialty Feeding Team cooked the food and a number of them and other volunteers helped distribute Thursday at the Sheriff's Office.
"Some people that are new to San Angelo don't know about jail ministry so this is also one way we can get the word out to them."
Dennis says the ministry is already planning for next year's event.
