San Angelo - TX -
Discount Tire, the world's largest tire and wheel retailer, the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association and legendary motorsports organization Team Penske are continuing their partnership in 2017, revealing tire tips all drivers should know in advance of National Tire Safety Week (May 28 to June 3).
The friction from tires with low air pressure rolling, turning and braking combined with higher pavement temperatures can lead to tire blowouts. To help stay safe on the road this summer, Discount Tire encourages drivers to know their numbers and follow these easy T.I.R.E. tips: tread depth, inflation pressure, rotation, education.
Tread depth - Most new car tires start with 11/32 inches of tread. If your tires don't have at least 4/32 inches, Discount Tire recommends replacing them.
Inflation pressure - Check tire inflation pressure at least once a month to make sure they are at the appropriate inflation pressure. For every 10 degrees of temperature change, tire air pressure changes 1 PSI (pound per square inch).
Rotation - Rotate tires every six thousand to eight thousand miles to prevent irregular tire wear.
Education -Stay educated on how to keep your tires safe and consider a roadside assistance plan. Some cars come with run-flat tires, while other vehicles are equipped with either a space-saver spare or tire repair kit. Check your trunk to see what your vehicle contains.
AAA Travel predicts that this year's Memorial Day will be the busiest since 2005 with a forecasted 38 million Americans hitting the road between May 26 and 30, yet less than 20% of drivers today know how to check the safety of their own tires, according to the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association. May 28 kicks off National Tire Safety Week and Discount Tire wants to keep all drivers safe on the roads this summer season. All of Discount Tire and America's Tires 940 neighborhood tire locations regularly provide drivers with free tire safety inspections performed by a trained tire technician.
During Memorial Day weekend, Discount Tire offers customer savings of up to $320 on new tire and wheel packages through credit and mail-in rebates.
