SAN ANGELO, Tx - In news with Kaitlin Moore, a San Angelo man is jailed after he robbed a convenience store and engaged in a stand off with police Thursday.
Police say 56 year old Julio Enriquez entered the store in the 800 block of north Chadbourne took merchandise from the shelves and grabbed a broken jagged glass bottle from a backpack which he used to threaten the clerk.
After canvassing the area, police found Enriquez near 11th and North Far streets.
When officers tried to take him into custody. Enriquez took out the bottle and held it to his own neck.
Officers began negotiating with him and another officer utilized a bean bag shot gun and stuck him in the hip.
Enriquez dropped his weapon and at that point officers were able to take him into custody.
He is charged with aggravated robbery.
Former bail bondsman Ray Zapata is back in court for a hearing on restitution after he was convicted of forgery, theft and money laundering.
The case involves a hand-written will of a man found dead in his Santa Rita home three years ago.
The jury sentenced the 66-year-old to six months in a state jail, which he is appealing.
A judge ordered Zapata to pay 1.8 million dollars in restitution based on the conviction and charges relating to the estate of John Sullivan.
Zapata is currently out on an appeals bond.
John young is a co-defendant in the case, is still awaiting his criminal trial.
Many are concerned the San Angelo railway museum could close it's doors depending on if the city renews a lease with the museum. Its 20 year lease ends in September.
In a special meeting Thursday afternoon, San Angelo mayor Brenda Gunter and council members met with the San Angelo railway museum board of directors asking them to return to council with a short-term improvement plan that includes maintenance and expenses to operate the building.
The mayor told them that information could be used to negotiate a new lease at the historic orient santa fe depot.
As of now, no date has been set for the board to return to council.
