Sonora, Tx - Sonora Camp Good Sam announces the first annual Sonora Strong - Pass it On Roping Festival, beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 22nd, at the Sutton Co. Arena.
The Sonora Strong - Pass it On roping event is being held in memory of Ms. Stevie Smith, with proceeds and sponsorship benefiting Sonora Camp Good Sam. Stevie was involved in a fatal car accident on January 31, 2016, and our hearts and lives are greatly impacted by the loss of her. The Roping Event in memory of Stevie Smith is to keep her legacy alive by providing the youth of Sonora with an engaging Summer Enrichment program called Camp Good Sam.
Sonora Camp Good Sam provides a free, six-week learning program for 110 1st through 8th graders who qualify, that helps them stay on grade level. Without this program, students with the greatest educational need will fall 2 to 3 months behind grade level over the summer. Sonora's local leaders, the school district, our churches, and dozens of Ropers from Sutton and surrounding counties have also signed up to support Sonora Camp Good Sam.
On Saturday, April 22nd, come out and enjoy the Sonora Strong - Pass it On Roping Festival in honor of Stevie Smith, one of our own. The event will include team roping, goat roping, concessions provided by Knights of Columbus 10609 and Guadalupanas, a family dance, and music by Brushfire band. Books open at 11:00 a.m. View the event flyer HERE.
