San Angelo Support for Veterans parade kicks off despite cold and windy conditions.

San Angelo, TX - Concho Valley residents braved the cold and windy weather to provide a warm welcoming to military veterans.

They did so on Thursday afternoon, with a parade stretching all along the Concho River.

"It's cold, but it's all right. It ain't the worst we've been in!" says Kevin Johnson, a military veteran of the U.S. Marines.

Those attending as spectators waved hello and thanked a number of military veterans during the parade.

These vets traveled along the route in golf carts--including Johnson, Michael Mendoza and Joshua Sholes.

"This band out here, that's our future there," says Michael Mendoza--pointing out the Central High School and TLCA bands. "To come out and see them and to acknowledge their patriotism. I'm excited to hear them play now!"

Sholes says he lived in San Angelo for about 3 years and that he's well aware of the city's support of the nation's military.

"I've always had a positive interaction with the community here," Sholes adds. "This is a very good community to be in as a military member."

Johnson says although it's important to acknowledge those military veterans who come back for events like this, it's the ones who don't come back who should be remembered most.

"Those are the ones we want to remember. The forgotten ones, the families and spouses. Those are the unsung heroes."
