SAN ANGELO, TX - Rail and open Bi-Planes were the only mode of long distance transportation in Texas in 1929 when the ford Tri-Motor went into operation.
The plane's first commercial use was with Trans-Continental air transport which flew planes in and out of Mathis Field.
One of less than 10 of the Ford Tri-Motors still in existence took people up for rides. The Ford Tri-Motor was the first ever mass produced airliner. Proceeds from ride fees this week will help maintain the plane and operate the museum in Ohio.
