Kids Eat Free Summer Meal Kickoff at Heartland Baptist Church

SAN ANGELO, TX - Free Summer Meals Served from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday

Baylor University's Texas Hunger Initiative and the Tom Green County Hunger Coalition are collaborating to have a kickoff of the Kids Eat Free Program for kids and teens and their parents at Heartland Baptist Church, at 2600 Chestnut. The event will be a fun way to kick off this new site and connect area kids to opportunities for free Summer Meals during July and August.

The exciting Kickoff for the Kids Eat Free Summer Meal Program at Heartland Baptist Church is planned for Mon-day, July 10th from 12 p.m to 1 p.m. "There will be water slides, carnival games, face painting, snow cones, and hot dogs cooked on the grill," said Bruce Burk, pastor of Heartland Baptist Church. "We want to be sure that every-one knows that kids as well as their parents are invited to the kickoff event." This meal site is new for the Kids Eat Free Program, and we are excited to be able to serve the McGill Elementary and Lee Middle School neighborhoods. Other sponsors of this new Kids Eat Free site are First Presbyterian Church, The Heights, and Parkside Community Foursquare Church. Each of these churches are first-time sponsors for the Kids Eat Free Program.

"For many kids, summertime means food, friends and fun. For families who count on school breakfast and lunch, however, the summer months can be stressful and family food budgets have to be stretched even further," said Mary Herbert, San Angelo Regional Director for the Texas Hunger Initiative. "During the summer, kids can also lose out on months of learning and physical activity that they would normally get at school. That's why fun activities are also a part of the day at each of our Kids Eat Free sites. It's summer, and we want the kids to have fun as well as get the chance to eat."

The Kids Eat Free Program offers free summer meals to all kids and teens ages 18 and younger at 9 locations in San Angelo and one in Carlsbad. The Kids Eat Free Program attributes its success to all the churches, community volunteers and businesses who give of their time, talent, and funding to support our efforts to make sure that no child goes hungry in the summer months of July and August. Call 2-1-1 or visit texashunger.org/San Angelo to find a meal site near you.
