Jaime Padron Memorial Scholarship

- The second anniversary of the passing of former San Angelo Police officer Jaime Padron, brings back mournful memories for his friends and loved ones. Chapter 35 of the Blue Knights of San Angelo honored the fallen officer by raising funds for the Jaime Padron Memorial Scholarship.

"The scholarship these guys are raising funds for is set up through the San Angelo Area Foundation. Their goal is to raise five thousand dollars for the scholarship and I think they've got that commited already. We're pretty excited about it and I'm happy to see that we will have a scholarship that will be honoring him and keep his memory alive," Padron's older brother Johnny Padron said.

Johnny Padron was among three chapters of the Blue Knights participating in the Iron Butt Run. A one thousand mile bike run in less than twenty four hours. Padron, drove a truck pulling a trailer which hauled the motorcycle of his brother Jaime. The Jaime Padron Memorial Scholarship will be for the child of an active or retired law enforcement officer for the amount of one thousand dollars, regardless of their field of study. The San Angelo Blue Knights Treasurer, Johnny Rodriguez says the first scholarship is anticipated to be awarded next year.

"He was all about kids. He wanted this world to be a better place by educating kids and educating the kids of his children our children everybody's children and make it a better place. Jaime made everybody around him a better person just because of who he was," Rodriguez said.
