The nationally acredited Main Street program spreads throughout the Lonestar State in conjuction with various cities to bring back the spark of historic downtown areas. The City of Sonora is recognized by Main Street as one of rich historic culture.

"Downtowns are so valuable I think over the course of time we've kinda steered away from downtown and kinda gotten on the fringes of our cities which is ok but the heart of your community is downtown," Sonora Main Street Manager Bill Hodges said.

Structure restoration allows for more local businesses and shoppers while ultimately increasing revenue for the city. Renovations to Sonora downtown include a dance studio, salon and spa, and restaurant while the most impressive is the original fully restored courthouse

"The court house is one of the central the centerpieces of our mainstreet program and for most mainstreet programs cause the courthouse is traditionally where people come to gather take care of business the architecture often as it is in our community is the best architictural design you know we want to preserve that and have it as one of the main attractions for our mainstreet and downtown area," Sonora Main Street Board Vice President Scott Jordan said.

The Sonora Courthouse has been standing for over one hundred years. From the orginal woodwork to the road of rightousness the courthouse will certainly give you a trip back in time.
