Garcia runs for SMD 3

- Elections for city council are Saturday. Wednesday, we spoke with candidate Eugenio Ismael Garcia who is running for office for the first time.

Garcia said he chose to run for office after the road on West Avenue P, the street he lives on, kept getting more potholes and flooding when it rained.

"The biggest issue is this street right here. When it rains, it gets pounded with gets flooded," stated Garcia. "I've seen it getting covered with water from that side of the sidewalk to this side of the sidewalk. It's not good."

Because of this, fixing his street and other roads in Single Member District 3 are a top priority.

"I'd like to see better streets. Streets need to be built one time. Let's not go back and repatch them. Let's do it right the first time," continued Garcia.

Garcia said he learned to have a fix-it attitude after serving in the Marine Corps and graduating with a bachelor's degree in government and a master's degree from Angelo State University.

"Very much so. I want to be proactive. That's what I want to do. I want to fix things. I don't want to say we've got a problem here that's always been a problem," continued Garcia. "We know it's going to be a problem. Let's take the steps to fix it, fix it right, and let's be proactive with everything."

While his frustration with the condition of the street on West Avenue P motivated him to run, he said he hopes to empower frustrated voters.

"I'm not so much a frustrated citizen so much as a citizen who wants to empower our city council... to take action... to be proactive on situations," finished Garcia.
